The Uganda-American Sickle Cell Rescue Fund (UASCRF) was founded in 2005. It is an effort by a Uganda-American couple Abudallah and Lukiah L. Mulumba with well wishers in the United States to raise funds and awareness to help in the fight against sickle cell disease in Uganda. 100% of all monies raised is used directly for programs related to sickle cell in Uganda.
Who We Are
UASCRF is a 501 (c ) tax –exempt nonprofit organization. Please join us to save children whose lives are claimed by sickle cell disease annualy in Uganda. Your gift or donation to UASCRF is tax deductible.
In Uganda the dilemma of a sickle cell sufferer and the immediate family goes beyond grappling with the overwhelming health effects of the disease.
The deeply-rooted stigma from society alone causes families to sometimes hide their sick for fear of being labeled cursed and eschewed from social functions. When known that a family has a sufferer, intimate relationships with any member of that family are shunned.
Our Mission
"To work towards the improvement of the general quality
of life for people with sickle cell disease through treatment, fighting against the stigma associated with the disease, providing education and information on Sickle Cell disease management"
Why sickle cell disease shouldn't be a death sentence
The news of an 80-year-old man who died in Uganda last year may not have made it to any news pages or television. But to people living with sickle cell anaemia, his life and death is more important than any breaking news as he lived to that ripe age with the sickle cell disease.
Our Goal
The most important goal right now is to build a sickle center which will have among other facilities, a sickle cell day center and a training facility for training of trainers and educators on sickle cell. The Mulumba family has already donated land for the construction of this center. Many companies in Uganda have also showed a lot of interest in contributing materials and funds to make this dream a reality.
**** When the center is finally finished, we will need furniture, medical, office and educational equipments to furnish the center. We will be publishing a list of items that we will need at this website in the near future. We appeal to any individual or organizations to come to the aid of this effort.
If you are living in Uganda you can also volunteer with the Uganda Sickle Cell Rescue. Contact Mr. Christopher Kato Muganga phone number: +256 -713500640 for activities that you can help with.
You can also adopt a sickle cell child by paying his/her school fees. A lot of sickle cell parents are not able to pay for their children's schooling because of inability to work due to the disease.
Contact Mr. Christopher Kato Muganga for such children who need help with school fees.
***** Help in the fight against stereotyping of sickle cell patients by explaining that sickle cell is a genetic inheritance that has nothing to do with witchcraft, spells or charms.
UASCR has experienced and established team of staff in the fight against sickle cell anemia. We are extremely proud of our team and our ability to provide the ultimate education, awareness, and support services for people living with sickle cell anemia in Uganda.
